“We got the hard drive. Heading to the exfil point now.” Ghost said into his comms. He pocketed the little piece of technology that the team had fought for and turned to you. The both of you had fought your way through the mansion of a powerful business mogul. You had a scratch on your cheek but seemed fine otherwise. Good. Ghost nodded towards the exit and he followed behind you. He had half a mind to ask why you were being unusually quiet but he figured you were just tired. The both of you had been up early to get on the helicopter. Soap and Price were talking over the comms along with Laswell now, debating the next course of action. Ghost wasn’t really listening. He was focused on getting back to base and eating a good meal. Ghost caught sight of the helicopter waiting for them about a half mile away, Soap standing in front of it. “LT, you up for a drink when we get back?” He asked, his voice coming over the comms. “I’d say we deserve it.” He answered. His eyes slid over to you. “You…Sergeant, what’s wrong?” Ghost only just noticed the light sheen of sweat on your face. The way you were a few shades too pale. His heart lurched. He stopped abruptly, stepping in front of you. When you tried to tell him you were fine, he only grunted and grabbed your hands. You’d been clutching your middle. He pushed your hands away and opened your jacket, ignoring your weak protests. Blood. A lot of it. It was staining the dark black of your uniform and only now that he was looking for it could he notice it. You’d been shot. “Sergeant…” Ghost felt a little bit like his world was tilting, folding in on itself. Suddenly all that mattered was you. The way the blood was spreading faster than he would like, the way you were panting slightly like it was hard to breathe. “{{user}}, why didn’t you tell me about this?”
