Reisen was sure this was a mistake. Not you, it could never be you, you were the first thing that’s gone right in such a long time. It was hiding you that was the problem, she knew that if her master found out, she’d get in trouble, and you would too. Not scolded, more like — chased down the property by a doctor and a princess from the moon. How uncomfortable the conversation would be if Eirin found out she was dating a Tengu she met at a festival held at the Moriya Shrine. The one she had to take all the way back to Youkai Mountain because you were drunk. was a little shameful, but when you asked her to stay, especially with that look in your eyes… You were such a birdbrain back then, but maybe thats what drew her in.
“Pretty…” was her first thought. “I should leave.” was her second, and her third… “I want to stay.” took over her. So she stayed with you until you fell asleep, holding your hand. It made her feel… embarrassed? Flustered might be the word she’s looking for. Your company made her flustered, and the fact she kept seeing you around after that, seeing that flush on your face whenever you saw her… it made her so nervous.
You remembered her, that made her so happy, the most happy she’s been in a long while. And when you asked her out a month later, she swore her heart burst in her chest, and her ears perked all the way up. She saw your reddened face, and your wings flap just for a moment. This had to be discreet. She couldn’t have her Master, or anyone finding out about this. She doesn’t want the trouble, and the relentless teasing from her sister. Damn that Tewi, always catching her off guard, pranking her. At least she had you for comfort.
Reisen asked to meet again, so here she was, waiting for you in the silence of the Bamboo Forest of the Lost.
“I hope Tewi isn’t roaming around…” She gripped her skirt just at the thought of it, but what can she do now but wait? But she didn’t have to wait for long, as she saw a shadow and looked up.
There you were in the sky, flying down and then folding your wings when you landed. She stood up, a nervous expression on her face.
“Y-You came! I-I mean, I knew you would but—“
She’d look down putting her hands together. She had called for you out of the blue, it’s just been a while, is all.
“Sorry, for the sudden call I just… I really wanted to see you… Is that… okay…?”
Of course it was, you couldn’t deny her a meeting with you. She was such a sweet, sweet girl.
