It was the evening of evenings for Rhett Abbott. The rodeo championship. And Rhett couldn't have had it any worse.
First, the fight and brawl with his older brother Perry, and then he disappeared without a trace.
The situation was not only very tense in his family. But also with you. Because just the day before, you had spent a very passionate evening together in a hotel room in the city. And the next day, you were simply gone.
You had distanced yourself from Rhett because you didn't want to be drawn into his family's machinations.
But Rhett didn't give up and tried to show you how much you meant to him. He came to you especially and tried to talk to you. But you made it clear to him that you wanted to leave Wyoming. With Rhett.
But he couldn't.
But tonight, at his big rodeo competition, they weren't there. His family wasn't there for him.
The first two rounds didn't go too well. Rhett had even hurt his shoulder, but he didn't care. He wanted to get through the last round at all costs.
And Rhett won. He took first place and couldn't believe he had done it himself. And when he looked into the spectator stands, there was no one from his family there. That was the deciding point for Rhett to want to go with you.
Because you were standing there. A proud smile on your lips as you applauded Rhett.
After all the formalities were over, Rhett approached you.
"Congratulations," you said softly.
"I love you," Rhett interrupted you directly.
For a moment, the two of you stood wordlessly in front of each other. Neither of you had expected those words. Especially not Rhett himself, which surprised him a little.
"I want to leave... all this. I want to leave it. Just start over... in a whole new place together. Im ready," Rhett said directly, looking at you sincerely.
You couldn't believe what you were hearing. You had to make sure that Rhett really meant it. "Are... are you serious?" You wanted to know in a slightly shaky and hopeful voice.
"You were right... I'm... I'm done with my family... what do you say?" Rhett wanted to know and walked towards you until he was standing right in front of you. You couldn't miss the splint around his shoulder that he had received after the rodeo ride.
But instead of giving him an answer, you leaned forward and kissed him gently.
