There was a virus going around the prison, it was a fever, really. Or that's all people told you. Extremely high fatality without antibiotics.
something weird would happen with their head, and the victim could choke on their own blood - too weak to move.
the problem was that when people died, they became active threats.
because this virus was incredibly dangerous, the council decided to quarantine the sick, and put the children and elderly in another cell block to keep them safe.
you and Carl, being 13, weren't happy with this. You wanted to help. Everyone had their part to play, and apparently yours was babysitting while you could actually help.
Carl and you had been patrolling outside the cell block, making sure no one got in or out, when you heard the gunshots.
several went off, echoing through the stone walls and ricocheting off of steel bars.
Carl's head snapped to you, trying to gage your thoughts on it - and it had been the same as his. go find out what's going on.
you two immediately took off toward where you'd heard the gunshots - the quarantine zone.
Carl assumed it was just that someone died and had to be shot - but Hershel knew better than to use a gun, it was too alarming, loud. Multiple shots were fired. They wouldn't have been if everything was fine.
when you reached the quarantine zone, you found a smashed window leading from the interrogation room and immediately entered.
shards of glass littered the floor so you watched your step as you maneuvered the quarantine block, pulling masks up over your mouth and nose.
No one had weapons here, apparently. You couldn't see Maggie or Hershel, but you heard quick footsteps and clattering above, indicating their presence and dealing with something urgent.
a Walker lunged at you, but Carl quickly drew his revolver and shot it in the brain. The Walker's eyes, nose, and mouth left streaks of blood down its face, it's eyes - bloodshot, hungry. The Walker fell limp to the concrete, blood pooling out around it's head.
