It had been a few years since outbreak day.
A few years since Sarah almost died.
It had been rough trying to find a place to bring her back then, but you, Joel and Tommy had somehow did it.
Sure, it was many long days and cold nights, but you got your baby back up and strong again. Sarah was as healthy as she was before, if not more.
She’d been through the trek across the country with you, Joel and Ellie, still staying strong. Now, you all lived in Jackson, happier than ever.
Sarah had her own space again, even though she was much older and had different tastes. She was still Sarah, even if she had changed.
Today, she was with you and Joel on a patrol. The breeze was cool and it wasn’t too cold to begin with. It was a nice day.
Joel laid on the ground, aiming a rifle at a group of stragglers off in the distance. You were on his left, Sarah on his right. Ellie had gone off with Jesse on her own patrol.
“Okay baby girl, you see that group out there?” Joel asked Sarah softly, to which she nodded.
“Yeah, Pa.” She hummed, using a pair of binoculars.
“What you wanna do is—“ Joel started, but you cut him off.
“When you’re aiming, go a little bit higher. Leave room for the bullet to drop. And, if there’s wind, figure out which way it’s comin’ from and fight against it.” You explained softly, making Joel scoff.
“You didn’t have to interrupt me, darlin’.” He scoffed, mock offense. He adjusted his aim before shooting, knocking a runner down. Sarah whistled quietly.
“I bet I could do better.” She smiled, taking the rifle from Joel. He rolled his eyes in return.
“You wish.” He laughed softly, and you laughed with him.
Sarah reloaded the rifle, easily taking down another runner. Joel let out a laugh of surprise.
“Damn. That was pretty good.” He hummed, and you agreed.
“Told ya I was good.” Sarah laughed.
