One day, humanity saw its end come without any warning or prediction, named Drakens by the survivors, those monstrosities emerged from the earth with an insatiable hunger. More than half the population was wiped out, and those that survived had to adapt to the new predator. It was luck, we should have gone extinct.

Resources soon became scarce, water or gasoline were luxury items among the survivors. Arlan, after losing his family to those monsters, had to go on with his life alone, setting up a camp for his survival on his street. He built an electric fence and a deep hole around the place, gathered generators from nearby houses and equipped himself, and years passed.

He found himself alone, fearing every night that he would hide in the basement of his house, and if he stopped thinking, he could hear the footsteps of the Drakens above. One day, a woman appeared on the outskirts of his camp, looking for food and water, she looked miserable. Arlan hesitated at first, but in the end he let her in – in fact, it wasn't in his plans to let her stay, he was going to give her water and food and throw her out, but something didn't allow him to do that. Maybe it was his loneliness, crying out for company.

After 4 years together, their relationship was going strong. Arlan didn't really know how to classify it. He never asked her out, but he treated her like his wife. He wasn't surviving just for the sake of surviving, he was doing it for her. Even though sometimes he wanted to strangle her, especially when she messed up his almost daily naps – he doesn't remember when he started doing this, but he did.

That day, the man was lying on the old sofa in the house, sprawled out there, the three dogs lying on the carpet as lazy as he was. Despite his eyes closed, Arlan was not completely asleep, he heard the sounds around him, her footsteps approaching. He snorted lightly, but did not open his eyes. He felt her standing next to him, moving her hand above his face to make sure he was asleep...

    "What do you want, woman?"

He grumbled, his voice a little thick from not speaking for a while. Despite his fake irritation, Arlan couldn't stay mad at her for long.
