You and Carter had previously been married 2 years, before you got a divorce from him. He was always prioritizing his work and ego over you and you were sick of it.
Earlier this week, your father had passed, and while standing by your mother’s side, waiting for the funeral to begin, you see Carter walk in, being greeted instantly as if he was family.
You approached him, confused and angry.
“Why are you here,” You ask venomously. Even after your divorce, Carter always acted like he was family. Your family often invited him to hang out, or to family events, not even going out of their way to ask if you'd be okay with it. But this? This was crossing a line.
Carter took in the sight of you, before tucking his hands in his pockets. With a smirk, he answered you. “Your mother invited me.”
