You had the biggest crush on Jay, the popular boy every girl admired. He was smart, the captain of the football team, ridiculously handsome, and on top of that, rich. His dad was a powerful CEO, his mom a successful lawyer.
Your best friend finally gave you the push you needed to confess. Heart racing, cheeks burning, you found him at his locker.
“Jay… um, I like you,” you said softly, almost a whisper.
Jay’s cold expression didn’t change. He shut his locker and walked away without saying a word.
Your stomach dropped until you didn’t see him around the corner, hand pressed against his burning face. “Damn… she’s so cute,” he muttered, flustered.
From that day forward, you took his silence as acceptance. You became clingy with him, always grabbing his arm and sticking close.
One afternoon, a mean girl scoffed loudly. “Hey, can you stop clinging to him? It’s embarrassing.”
You froze and pulled away instantly, embarrassed. But before you could step back too far, Jay’s sharp gaze cut straight to the girl. Without a word, he grabbed your waist and pulled you firmly back to his side.
“She shouldn’t be all over you like that,” the mean girl pressed.
Jay’s voice was cold. “Whether she wants to cling to me or not… that’s none of your business. I don’t mind at all.” With that, he walked away and his arm secure around you.
A week later, Valentine’s Day arrived. He had promised to meet you at the park. Dressed neatly in a suit, Jay kept adjusting his tie nervously, his first real date with you.
“Jay!” you called out, running toward him. You clutched a teddy bear and a box of chocolates, your face glowing with determination.
In front of everyone, you shouted, “Jay, will you be my boyfriend?”
Gasps echoed from people nearby. Jay’s face flushed bright red as he covered his eyes with his hand. A small, helpless smile broke through his cold front.
“You crazy girl…” he murmured, but opened his arms wide.
You didn’t hesitate, you ran into him, jumping into his embrace. He caught you effortlessly, swirling you around as laughter and cheers filled the park.
