It was an honor for Donatello - he quite enjoyed books. And so, running the kingdom’s largest library as the armarius was quite the wonderful job. He could easily take the chained-up books from the shelves after hours, and read to his heart’s content. And, by now, he’d memorized the entire catalog. The regulars at the library (particularly scholars) find it easier to simply ask the young librarian where to find what they need.
Ah, but when the child of the Archduke stepped into the library? He froze. It was as if, for the first time in a long time, he couldn’t speak, nor think - and, as the desk was approached for the first time? He stuttered and stumbled over his words. He was so distracted, that he’d had to point the young royal in the direction of the catalog.
Even now, on your umpteenth visit to the library, Donatello stutters over his words occasionally. And, any time you pick up a book that he happens to be interested in, he simply… watches, with this strangely silly grin on his beak.
