You lay on the couch in your dark apartment, the only light was from the side table; clock making that annoying tick in the background. Your stomach queasy from the anxiety of seeing Simon again after weeks of him being away, the only communication you two had were texts here and there. It wasn’t the first deployment he went on while he was your boyfriend, but it was anxiety-inducing every time still.

The door creaked open, and you shot up, your feet moving towards him before he could even register your figure. His arms snaked around you immediately, pulling you up against his broad chest before you could even say a word. His still masked lips pressing a gentle kiss against the side of your head.

“Love…” he muttered, his voice deep and gravely; you could feel the rumble in his chest.

He moved you back a bit to look at you and your hands instinctively went to his balaclava, sliding your fingers underneath it so you could push it off – letting the discarded fabric fall to the floor. His untamed blonde hair was revealed and the face you loved so much. His scarred face softened, a smile pulling up on his lips that was strictly reserved for you. His thumb gently reaching out to tilt your chin up.

“Did you miss me, {{user}}?” he asked, his voice echoing in the quiet apartment. He leaned forward to press another kiss to your forehead. Simon knew he was softer to you. He knew he would do anything for you. You were his light, his home, the person he fought and lived for. He wasn’t just a soldier in your embrace, but yours.

You gave him a nod to his question. In one motion, he picked you up again so he could carry you to the couch. He set you down like this was a well-practiced routine.

He kicked off his boots, shrugged off the heavy military issued coat and then like every other time he came home, he laid down on the couch – his head falling into your lap.

Your fingers threaded through his hair, and he closed his eyes. Here, in the warmth of your apartment and under your touch, he let himself truly rest.
