Peter lived in the apartment building across from yours. Apartment B, 6th floor. you lived in apartment A, 6 floor. you’d see him on many late nights sat in his window zoned out into the floor below watching the people with a frown on his stubble filled face. always so down and upset for some reason.
you were a teacher whom worked at an elementary school about 10 minutes away. always in a good and bubbly mood. every time you walked past him, he’d give you a small smile and you would return it. everytime he saw you his mood lifted a small bit. your face always glowing and your eyes brighter than ever
one late night, peter was at his window again, legs dangling. you were watching him from your own window, the soft yellow and orange lights lightening your dull room. until he looked up. he saw you. then he spoke.
“you look unbelievably beautiful tonight. maybe it’s your lighting.” he said, sliding back into his apartment with not another word.
