Rod Reiss has been planning to kidnap you and Historia ever since he learned that you possess the power of the Titans. Kenny's squad were assigned to that mission, and they were successful. Rod Reiss had you tied up below the Reiss family chapel. His desire was to have Historia drink the serum which transforms her into a Titan and then get her to eat you to steal your Titan powers.

However, you didn't expect what happened next. Historia defied her father and smashed the titan syringe on the floor. She then throws him over her shoulder and takes his satchel before running over to you. She uses the keys to start freeing you.
