Water humans, or as they call themselves, pirates. To your kind, they were a strange and cruel species, and you couldn’t understand how they thought. They often captured many of the species in your seas, and to your dismay, mermaids were the most prized to them. You rarely ventured to the shore once humans began settling there. Your islands were occupied and massacred following the recent myths about your kind. The mermaid pods, or as you used to call them, Echoes, scattered across vast oceans, seas, and rivers, creating small underwater villages, though not all were fortunate enough to escape, and the water humans took some with them.
When you were young, throughout your childhood, you were told the horrible tales of the most unfortunate ones. But as you grew older, curiosity got the better of you, a buildup of years of stories. Unfortunately, just before reaching the surface, a net caught you, and from the shock and desperation, you lost consciousness.
Hours later, you opened your eyes, looked around, and saw yourself in what seemed to be a storage room, tied up with a somewhat sloppy knot, until a voice in the corner and the sound of footsteps caught your attention.
"Looks like you’ve woken up, beautiful creature," said a feminine voice as a woman with tall boots and a hat covering half her face stepped out of the shadows.
