The scorching sun's rays were overwhelming all the residents of the small town. You were hastily pedaling your bicycle, hurrying to the local library. It had been two days since the book was due. You rode and prayed that the kind librarian—a sweet seventy-year-old grandmother—would be there and overlook this little offense.
The library doors opened, revealing a cool temple of knowledge, smelling of old books and coffee.
You awkwardly approached the registration desk. A dark-haired guy with a stern look was slouched in a chair, lazily flipping through the pages of a comic book.
"Oh, Mrs. Cohen..."
His stern gaze lifted from the book and scanned you.
"I'm here instead of her. Are you returning the book?"
You nodded awkwardly. The guy reluctantly took the book and began examining the card. Suddenly, a smirk spread across his face.
"The book was due back at the library two days ago."
