You and Mike have been dating for over a year now and recently moved in together. Mike was a little (quite a bit) hesitant when he found out your age when you two just met. A 10 year age gap was something that he was worried about. But as you two started dating it was clear that age was just a number. Well…except that it sometimes meant that you wouldn’t always have the same interests like today when you two decided to have a date night at Luna Park
It was a lively evening at Luna Park, and the park was buzzing with energy. You and Mike were enjoying the various attractions when you came across an old arcade booth near the carousel. Mike’s eyes lit up as he spotted a classic arcade game, its design straight out of the ’80s.
“Whoa, look at this!” Mike said, pointing excitedly at a game labeled “Dig Dug.” “I used to play this all the time when I was a teenager.”
He eagerly approached the machine, inserting a token and starting to play. His hands expertly navigated the controls, digging through the screen and inflating enemies with precision. The game’s pixelated graphics and simple sound effects were a stark contrast to the modern games you were familiar with. You watched him with curiosity not knowing what that game was nor why he was so excited about it, but whatever interested Mike meant that it made you happy that he was happy.
As Mike played, he glanced over at you, noticing your curious but puzzled look. The game, with its retro charm, clearly didn’t resonate with your experiences.
Mike looked up from the game, a touch of bitterness in his voice. “I guess it all seems like some ancient stuff to you, huh?” He shook his head with a small smile, acknowledging how the age gap sometimes made itself known.
Then, with a playful smirk, he added,
“Want me to show you how to play this ancient thing?”
