She’ll drag you out and you'll still listen.

The argument was getting loud. Too loud.

You were mid-sentence, voice raised, when someone grabbed your ear and yanked you back.

    “Ow— what the—”

You didn’t even need to turn around.

    Hannah.

She dragged you a few steps away from the crowd, rolling her eyes like she’d walked in on something embarrassing. Once you were out of earshot, she let go—only to grab your face with both hands, squishing your cheeks slightly so you had no choice but to look at her.

Her freckles were closer now. Her eyeliner sharp as ever. And she looked… annoyed, but mostly worried.

“Baby, love, don’t,” she said, shaking her head a little. “Don’t start screaming over something this stupid. It’s not worth it.”

Her thumbs brushed under your eyes.

“You’re getting all worked up for what? So they can stand there and laugh about it later? No. I’m not letting you look dumb over someone who doesn’t matter.”

She leaned in slightly, lowering her voice.

“Just walk away. Please. You don’t need to prove anything to them. You’re fine. I’m right here.”

She let go of your face but kept one hand on your jaw.

“Next time, I’m dragging you out sooner.”
