The night was cold, the sharp wind was blowing through the trees in the park, and you knew exactly where to find Johnny Cade. He always took refuge when things at home became unbearable. That night, the temperature seemed even more cruel, and her heart opened as she imagined him there, lying on the cold floor with just his worn-out denim jacket and some newspapers to cover himself.

When you arrived, you saw him huddled under the rusty swing, tremendously light, but trying to pretend he was okay. Without saying a word, you changed, pulling the blankets you brought from home, and moving to his side, wrapping him in the soft wool.

He looked at you, surprised, his eyes tired and dark under his messy hair. "You didn't have to come," he murmured, his voice low and hoarse, as if each word cost enormous effort. " I'm fine."

"Of course I have to, Johnny," you replied gently, arranging the blankets around him carefully. "You're going to freeze out here. No matter how hard you try to be tough, it's still winter."

Johnny gave a small smile, that sad smile he always made when he was trying to hide his pain. "It's not much different from home, you know? At least out here... no one's yelling at me."
