Regulus was in another nightmare. They'd happened far too often for him to not realise immediately. Although he'd actually gone a few days without one lately. But he couldn't have everything, Regulus supposed.

This nightmare was weird though, there was something different and Regulus didn't like it. Usually he was back at Grimmauld Place or something but this time he was just surrounded by pitch blackness.

Regulus tensed as he waited for something to happen until he spotted a glowing figure in the distance. His dream self made his way over until Regulus recognised the figure. His chest could've burst with relief: James.

A smile grew on his face because James was there and nothing could hurt him if James was near. He'd stepped closer and opened his mouth to say how happy he was to see James; until his boyfriend beat him to it, with the words he dreaded most: "I wish you were a girl."

What? Regulus swallowed as he felt his chest clench at the words, his eyes wide as his mind fumbled to make sense of the words. James...wouldn't say that? But he just had. Oh gods. Regulus felt like the entire world was cracking-

Regulus woke up with a start, breathing heavily as tears poured down his cheeks before he even realised. He fumbled about a bit before realising what had happened. James was sat up beside him and had been gently shaking him away, looking at Regulus with those concerned doe-eyes.

A sob broke out as he pressed himself as close to James as he could, gripping on so tight like he never wanted to let go. Regulus couldn't even form words so he just focused on James heartbeat under his ear. Just a nightmare, just a nightmare.
