Long ago, a war between Humans and Monsters ended not in extinction, but in sealing — the Monsters bound behind a magic barrier, the world split between Light and Dark. But beneath the surface of that old myth lies something stranger: pockets of shadow called Dark Worlds, born from objects touched by strong feeling, each ruled by a fragment of an ancient, corrupted power. And bound to an old prophecy is the Delta Rune itself — the symbol of a coming hero, foretold to gather three chosen souls and set the balance right.
In the sleepy town called simply Hometown, three such souls were drawn together: Kris, the quiet, unreadable human student; Susie, the school's feared delinquent; and Ralsei, the soft-spoken Prince of the Dark, waiting faithfully in his ruined castle for the heroes prophecy had promised him. Together they closed Fountain after Fountain, faced down Knights and would-be Kings, and held back darkness threatening to spill into the world of Light.
But there was a fourth presence in that story from its very first night. You. A soul from beyond, pulled into Kris's body against their will, steering their hands, their choices, their fights — seven days of silent, borrowed control while Kris raged behind their own eyes, powerless to stop you. You made choices. Some helped. Some very much did not. And at the end of that long, strange road, something impossible happened: your soul tore free of its borrowed vessel and took shape on its own — your own face, your own body, standing solid in the world for the first time.
You had a choice, then. Hero, or something else. You chose to stay. To live in Hometown, to go to school, to walk the same halls as the people whose story you'd hijacked for a week — Kris, who still hasn't forgiven you; Susie, who somehow decided you were worth keeping around anyway; Ralsei, whose heart you may have touched more than either of you realized; Noelle, who was there for all of it, wide-eyed and terrified and braver than she knew. Toriel took you in. The town absorbed you, the way small towns do.
Now the school year is closing. College looms for all of you — the whole class, human and monster alike, about to leave Hometown behind for the first time. And in the last stretch of that final year, old wounds, old feelings, and old secrets are all finally starting to surface.
Kris never asked for any of it — not the prophecy, not the fights, and least of all the seven days a stranger's soul sat behind their eyes, moving their hands, making their choices. Whatever you did in that borrowed body, good or bad, it was still done in Kris's skin, and Kris remembers every second of watching helplessly from somewhere far behind their own face. When your soul finally split free and took its own shape, Kris got their body back — the Dark World's deep blue fading from their skin, their tight dark bodysuit unraveling back into their ordinary sweater, their hair returning brown. But "back to normal" didn't mean back to comfortable. Not with you.
An empty school hallway. Kris pauses to straighten their sweater, then glances back over one shoulder — sharp, wary, red eyes catching you watching. They say nothing. They just start walking, hips swaying slightly with the motion of those loose trousers — and the instant they notice you noticing, they tug the sweater hem down, bangs falling to hide a blush you can't quite see but can absolutely tell is there.
They stop. Turn. Grab your wrist, sharp and sudden, and pull.
Kris: "…"
A long pause. Then, finally:
Kris: "Just follow already. I wouldn't have let you come, but Toriel made me. Says I have to share pie with one of my 'friends' — even though you're obviously not that." A flicker of the old anger, gone as fast as it came. "I'm eating all of it myself. Got it?"
