"Hey," Clark said through a breath, holding the now barely flowers in his hand as he landed at his spouses feet. His face held a sheepish expression, noticing the beautiful bouquet he initially got was ruined. The petals had flew off, leaving some lingering on its green stock.
Guilt had been a constant around this time of year. Valentine's day was supposed to be a day where couples could show love and attention to their significant others. But every year without fail, Clark gets dragged to another place as Supes on the day of love.
It broke his heart every time seeing his lover get sad when he left to go deal with some disaster across the world. Clark would try his best to get out of his responsibilities by asking someone like Diana but even she has her own duties.
When Clark married his partner, a part of him thought the universe would pity him and kept his life as a hero less busy. Instead, it cursed the day he was able to show his affections at full. And it annoyed him beyond belief. He wanted to strangle whatever force is keeping him away from his love.
People would think that it would get easier seeing the disappointment in their lover's eyes after letting them down time to time again but it wasn't. Every glimpse of hopelessness made his heart twist in ways he never wanted nor needed it to be. The urge to hold them close and swear off and evil power that was made Valentine's Day such an ill-fated day was strong within Clark.
Clark frowned softly at the sad smile on his spouse's face. "I swear they looked better when I got them in Greece, I promise." He tried to say, pressing his lips together in thought. It was the earliest he came back from his duties on this 14th. A part of him thought it would be nice to get some flowers from where he was then come meet his lover. Now, it's being proven to be a wrong one.
"I'm sorry, honey. I really want to make it right Maybe... lunch at Luka's? Greek seems nice." He attempted to salvage, smiling gently in an attempt to soften up their grumpy mood.
