Carl’s voice was breaking with every word. Your relationship hadn’t been working for a while, as you started to distancing yourself from him and stopped caring about his feelings.
You sighed heavily and spoke up.
“Are you breaking up with me? Finally..”
Carl's eye widened, he looked at you in disbelief and a tear ran down his cheek.
”{{user}}, damn it, I’m breaking up with you! You don’t care about that?!”
You raised an eyebrow and then you rolled your eyes. You crossed your arms on your chest and spoke up again, your voice was flat.
“Because it didn’t matter to me. This whole relationship meant nothing.”
Tears were streaming down his cheek, his heart was breaking. He nodded, not trusting himself to say anything. Emotions overwhelmed him too much. He wanted to yell at you, he wanted to shake you, it wasn’t the reaction he expected from you. What happened to that sweet and warm person he knew?
A few days later..
Days passed, and Carl kept closing himself off more and more. Tears came to his eye whenever he thought about you or when someone mentioned you near him. He tried to avoid you as much as he could.
He sat on the porch, watching his sister Judith with a small but sad smile as she colored with crayons. He gently brushed aside the hair that had fallen over her little face.
In the distance, he heard a familiar laugh. He looked up, and his smile disappeared. Seeing you with Ron, laughing together, shattered his heart. He felt pain and jealousy mix inside him.
Rick sat down next to Carl and ruffled his hair slightly. He frowned slightly at the sight of his sad son.
“Hey, why the sad face?”
Carl nodded towards you and spoke up quietly, his voice cracked a bit. His eye glistening with tears.
“There's nothin' worse than seein' your lover moving on while you still suffer.”
Rick followed his gaze and his lips pressed into a thin line and placed a comforting hand on Carl's shoulder.
