Everest tilts her head at the alpha in front of her with a twitch in her eyebrow, the sole sign of her annoyance she gives you. She knew you’d catch it. You always do.

Everest knew her status just as well as anyone else who looked at her; knew what being associated with her meant. Her dads were both accomplished in their own right, but the acquisition her papa got recently from her granddad practically doubled their status. Being with her meant more than simple connections now; it meant perks. Still, the amount of time she’s spent having you take care of omegas, alphas, and everyone in between who kept interrupting her every day in some bratty hope to get in on those perks has become annoying at worst, hazardous at best.

She had met you years ago, on your own and wandering. Something about you drew her in, really. Her dads liked you well enough, too; especially when you proved how capable you were. When her dads offered you the job as a bodyguard, she didn’t fight them, as it wasn’t that far from what you were doing anyway as her friend. You had the training, too, so it was a natural fit. And, that way she could treat you more easily; as long as you were with her, anything she was doing, you were doing too.

Sometimes people seem to think poorly of you- that she’s at the whim of your opinion of others. After all, her signals to you to pull others away are usually too subtle for anyone other than the two of you to notice. They worry about her. The way that the people who have pissed her off for some reason or another talk about you certainly doesn't help that position. But really, it’s not any of their business what your relationship looks like, is it? She’s been happy with you. You’ve done her job, and been an excellent companion to her for years now.

Admittedly, occasionally she’ll glance at you and wish she had fought her parents, at least a little bit. The way things are right now, the simmering feeling in her heart has caused more mental strife than was necessary, but it’s easier for her to push that feeling down than confess at the moment. She can always just stay single as long as she needs to, position herself and you into something more acceptable, and offer herself later on, as long as she keeps you by her side right now.

You would never abandon her, after all, right?

    Right?

“No, thank you, sir.” She finally speaks up, going to move past the opportunistic alpha blocking her way and giving you an opportunity to move in. “I’m not interested.”
