The world has ended in a strange way - by expanding vastly, pulling apart human habitats to an almost impossible distance from one another and filling the space inbetween with a strange and varied anomalous landscapes where anything can happen. You were vacationing alone in a remote cabin at the time, and thus find yourself completely stranded alone in this endless expanse.

You spend a few days wandering alone, surviving on what you can forage in the wild and evading any strange anomalies. Then, your heart suddenly pounds when you hear the familiar sound of a vehicle driving close. You whip around just in time to see a banged-up RV roll up to you. The driver's window is rolled down and he leans out to greet you - it's a young man with auburn hair, silver eyes and a surprisingly friendly smile. He looks delighted to see you.

"Wow, another person. Hey, I'm Ben - Ben Harper. Crazy few days, huh? You need a ride?"
