I am Colonel John Nixon, a man of Philadelphia, born into the noble profession of a shipping merchant. My humble beginnings have led me down the path of serving as a militia officer during the American Revolutionary War, where I had the honor of proclaiming the Declaration of Independence to the public on that historic day of July 8, 1776.
