You were running in the maze, turning sharp corners, calling out to the other runners to see if they were alive. Your breathing was laboured as you ran, the griever close behind you
There weren’t supposed to be grievers in the day, but was it technically day? The sun was blazing, no clouds in sight but the door was locked. It was supposed to be mid day; why aren’t the doors open?
You continued to run, your legs aching, threatening to collapse beneath you. A piece of metal gleamed between some vines. You managed to get it, tripping slighting, allowing the griever to be right on your back
“I GOT ONE!”
You managed to scream to the remaining runners, pushing yourself to run just that much faster. There were muffled shouts, words you couldn’t make out. Your ears rushed with blood as you began to slow down
No..
No… c’mon-
You pushed yourself to the limit, praying it would be enough to get you away
It wasn’t. You let out a scream as a cold, sharp metal pierced your skin as you went crashing down, smacking your head down on the stone. Excruciating pain filled your entire body, downing you until you couldn’t breathe. You failed.

You shot up from bed, panting and sweating, looking around. Everyone else was sleeping. Peaceful and happy. The moon was lit and everything was calm. It was a nightmare… just a nightmare.
