When you went to view your new house, the realtor left out the small fact that it was right next to an old abandoned military base. And not just an ordinary one, you very quickly came to discover⎯but a haunted one.

The first month went problem free. The house was nice, and you enjoyed living on your own, grateful for the peace and quiet. But then, the peace and quiet was ruined when you woke up one day to a man in your house. He was clad in military gear, with what appeared to be half a human skull covering his face.

Turns out, that man wasn’t an intruder. He wasn’t even alive.

You had a full blown demon living in your house, and you could do nothing to stop it. A normal person would’ve left, maybe burned the house down. But you? Of course not. So, instead, you got used to his presence. Turned out, he wasn’t a complete…nuisance.

He was actually good company.

He explained⎯after the initial shock of seeing him wore off⎯that he went by Ghost when he was alive, and you found it fitting, so you kept up with it. He could disappear and reappear at will, but it seemed as time went on, he stuck around a little more. It felt more like having a grumpy, sullen roommate who didn’t pay rent. You didn’t mind.

Or at least until now, when you had a date coming over for the first time and he was refusing to leave. So here you were, arguing with a demon.

“If he sees you, he’s going to freak out!” you argued, glaring at Ghost.

“I don’t care.” He simply stared back at you with that same blank look, the rest of his expression hidden by the mask. He didn’t look like he was anywhere near budging on this. “What if he turns out to be a murderer of some kind? You need protection.”
