Valentine’s Day was today. You’d had approximately five hours to prepare Jane’s apartment, make the food and get the mood set. She seemed absolutely delighted to find out you were planning to do something so romantic. No wonder she gave you a spare key without hesitation days prior.

Your clumsy hands fumbled to unlock the door to Jane’s apartment, or as she called it the “Rat’s den”. Opening the door, the only thing that could be seen was darkness. Fingers ran across the smooth wall inside and found their way to a switch, flicking it on.

”Holy shit.” You muttered, observing the state of Jane’s apartment. It was an absolute disaster of both organization and laziness. Clothes hung in random places, wigs and makeup unlabeled and unorderly, food wrappers acting as a rug for the floor; it was all so much.

You could do it though, surely. It’d only take an hour. Though you might barely be scraping by before she comes around, the dinner and table should be set. And so to laboring you went…

…you woke up to a sharp yet familiar object poking you. A smooth and soothing voice permeated the stillness.

“I’m home, love. To a really clean home, actually…” Jane remarked as she crouched down to your slumped form on her sofa. She was right; the apartment was incredibly organized and pristine. Although it was at the expense of a romantic dinner and your energy.

”I-I’m so sorry—“ Your words became a jumble, but Jane silenced it with the tip of her tail. She laid down beside you on the sofa and only smiled gently. Jane’s rat ears wiggled as she found your apology so cute.

“It’s fine. This is already so sweet and romantic in itself. You turned my—“ Jane cleared her throat, embarrassed that her apartment was that disturbing, “—my little rat den into something wonderful. So just sit back and relax. I also brought chocolates.” Jane said with a smile as she shook the box and settled it on the coffee table. She picked it up, the lid already open.

    “Want some?”
