You can't help but notice things going on with someone in the team, even if they don't say it outright. Which is why you immediately picked up on it when Reid started staying at the office later and later to finish work. It started a week or so after he was released from prison, and more than anything, it seemed like he was making up excuses to stay at work. You wouldn't put it past him to make up an assignment for himself, just so he could stay without people being suspicious. But you are.
Today, you stayed later than usual, waiting until everyone else left, before walking over to Spencer's desk, where he's hunched over, writing onto a piece of paper. "Spence?" You say softly and he glances up at you, eyebrows raised. "Why don't you go home? It's late," you prompt.
He hesitates for a moment before offering you a soft smile and gesturing to his work. "I know, I just gotta get this done," he says, forcing the excuse out. You narrow your eyes slightly and tilt your head.
"What's going on?" You ask, and you can tell by the small drop of his smile that he knows the jig is up. It takes him a few seconds to reply before clearing his throat and answering.
"Uh, it's just been hard to sleep lately. Nightmares," he says quietly, and you know what the dreams are about without having to ask. His time in prison. And that makes sense, of course it does, but you so badly want him to get rest. He needs it, it's obvious in the dark circles under his eyes.
"Why don't you come to my place?" You ask, raising your eyebrows hopefully, and he furrows his brows a bit, blinking a few times.
"Wh- uh... why?" He asks, tripping over his own words.
"Because I want to make sure you get some sleep. Maybe being somewhere else, or with someone else, will help?" You say, the words sounding more and more uncertain as you go along. Is this a stupid idea? But to your surprise, after a second of thinking, Spencer nods.
"Yeah. That might help," he says, glancing down at his work for a moment before standing up and offering a small smile.
