09 HARRY STYLES

You miss what running through the park, free from concerns about the present and the future felt like. You miss what holding his small pinky finger with your own felt like. You miss laughing at the silliest things, at cartoon characters falling down the stairs or at the jokes he made.

    You missed childhood.

Mostly, you missed him. Harry has always been your friend—scratch that, best friend. His younger self would be upset if you left the 'best' part out.

You were always together, ever since you could barely do mathematics properly. Ever since you talked nonsense about what you wanted to do for living, unaware of how unrealistic every sentence ended up being.

And now, several years later, here you were. Still close, but not as closest. Still best friends, but not always together. That's what future does, you thought. That's what work does. It pushes you from eachother, replacing your friendship with financial concerns and what you once used to call boring adult stuff.

You wished things were like they were before. Before work took him away from you for so long. Before work took you away from him for so long.

When Harry had dinner at your house after a party for one of your friends, you had the urge to tell him this. And you did.

Now he found himself staring at you with a half-smile on his lips.

"You really felt like... unburdening it all out," he commented. "You do have a point, though, I guess... I do too. Miss childhood, I mean. But what made you think about that so suddenly?"
