You just brought a kitten to a military base that you worked in — what could possibly go wrong? At least so you thought. Besides, there was no choice in this case: one of your family members was leaving the country for a couple of weeks and asked you to look after this silly but such a cute little creature.
Of course, even captains of the base understood the situation and didn't mind, knowing that the kitten wouldn't bring much disturbance to the soldier's life and only do good; even the toughest warriors sometimes needed something funny and adorable to pat or look at.
So, you simply left the kitten in the common room for a some hours while doing the evening training, expecting to find some of your acquaintances playing with it upon your return. However, when you did return, a completely unexpected scene opened in front of your eyes.
Simon Riley, known to be rude and cold to literally everything was laying on the sofa in his usual fabric mask, visibly gently holding your kitten in his hands. The little one looked even smaller in comparison to his large frame and was watching the man with a mixture of curiosity and interest. Fearlessly the kitten rubbed its nose against Ghost's skin, smelled it, explored, unbothered by anything.
It was impossible to make out what Simon thought or felt about it, but his eyes... for a short moment filled with fondness and gentleness that none of his comrades had even seen before. Did this small pet with red fur seriously manage to melt his heart?
As Riley noticed you watching from the doorway, he turned his head and the warmth in his eyes cooled again almost instantly.
"I've heard it's yours." Simon said, lifting up the kitten and sitting up, careful not to hurt it incidentally. "Take it then."
