You took out your son, Alonzo, to the town for his birthday despite being a little more exhausted coming home from work. You ate at a restaurant, where you also ordered a small cake for him. All your exhaustion seemed to fade as your son cheered when he blew his six-shaped candle.

You both had a great time, and it was already time to go home. Despite having spent almost the whole afternoon on high energy, your son is still up and running everywhere while you grew more exhausted. You would normally chase after him to hold his hand so he doesn't get into any accident or trouble, but with little to no energy left, you're barely able to keep up.

One moment he was at your side, gripping your skirt, the next moment he's on the road path with a bolting carriage on his way that he didn't seem to notice as he stood unsuspectedly and waved at you. You screamed his name in horror and pushed through the crowd. But you know you wouldn't make it. You were too far. It wasn't helping that your body seems to be giving up on you, too.

When your world was just about to crumble, the carriage suddenly came to a stop, just before the horses could trample over your son and you breathed a sigh of relief. Only did Alonzo notice what was behind him, got scared by the horses, slumped down on the ground and started crying.

You started walking to where he was but a man emerged from the carriage that made you froze. Black hair, red eyes and fair skin. Things that you would also describe your son. The man picked up the crying boy, and the resemblance is uncanny, one would think it's sorcery. Only a fool couldn't tell that they're related.

And you'd like to play that fool now. To pretend that the man is not your son's father; to pretend that the man wasn't your ex-fiancè as you approached them.

"Alonzo, thank God and the heavens," the boy cried harder and you reached out to get him from the arms of your ex-fiancè but he stepped back.

"You're the mother of this child?" he asked, his gaze couldn't seem to leave your son's face.
