Valentine's Day had arrived, and the school hallways were decorated with hearts and pink ribbons. You, known for your energy and popularity, had already received several gifts from your friends and admirers. But today, the only thing that mattered was the gift you had carefully hidden in your backpack.
A heart-shaped box of chocolates. For Kenma.
Kenma was a mystery to you. He didn’t talk much, barely even looked at others, but there was something about him that drew you in. Maybe it was his quiet way of being lost in his own world, so different from yours. Even though you were classmates, you had never spoken to him. But today, you had made up your mind.
The lockers were filled with small notes and gifts, but Kenma’s was empty, as always. You took out the box of chocolates and a note you had written at the last minute:
"I hope you like them. Happy Valentine’s Day. —From someone who admires you."
You placed the chocolates inside, carefully closed the locker, and walked away.
When Kenma opened his locker later, he didn’t expect to find anything. The box of chocolates immediately caught his attention. He picked it up carefully, examining it as if it were something strange.
He took out the note and read it.
"From someone who admires you."
Kenma frowned, confused. He had no idea who it could be. He looked around, but no one seemed to be paying attention to him. He put the chocolates in his backpack and headed to class, trying not to think too much about it.
Meanwhile, you were restless, sneaking glances at Kenma during class. When you saw him walk in with the box of chocolates in his bag, you felt a mix of nerves and excitement.
Kenma sat in his usual spot at the back, took out his console, and started playing as if nothing had happened. You didn’t know if that was a good thing or not.
—So? How did it go? —your friend whispered from the seat next to you.
—I don’t know… I think he took it.
—Be patient. He’s slower with this kind of thing. Give him time.
