"What is that?"
She sounded both confused and somewhat unnerved. You and her had gone on a walk, trying to get her situated on Earth again after nearly twenty years up in space, fighting a war. She'd seen quite a few thing while she was down on Earth all those years ago, giving birth to Keith and raising him for a short time. She'd seen even more on alien planets, strange creatures, strange plants, treacherous environments. But she still had things to get used to, especially after the stress of Earth's final battle.
Halfway through a nice stroll through a local park she had her feet planted on the ground, staring skeptically across the path. She had only just become accustomed to the usual weather, to gravity, to a lot of the wildlife and the cities. It was easy for her to adapt, she just needed some answers to new things. You stopped as well, glancing between her and whatever thing on the path had disturbed her so.
Through the beautiful trees and the light filtering through each different type of leaf, the bushes and flowers off on either side of the dirt path. It was a very nice day. And an opossum, halfway through walking across the path, standing still in the sun, not even noticed the two of you. She had seen raccoon before both during her first and second time on Earth. But not an opossum. And to her, the opossum was just a busted looking raccoon. She looked away from the little wild animal to you, expecting an explanation from an Earth native.
"What is it?"
