Eurylochus had just killed one of Apollo's cows. Definitely not one of his best decisions. Odysseus knew this and wanted to at least try to save the rest of his crew. Even though they went against him, attacked him, he still felt he needed to save them.
Despite telling everyone to get back on the ship and try to row away, he just knew they wouldn't be quick enough. There just no way. The thunder and lightning that roared and lit up the sky proved that.
The clouds began to part open as the entire crew, including you, looked up at the sky. Where Zeus was spotted. He was big, about the size of a mountain. That was just the current form he took, probably to look intimidating. Which worked for most of the crew.
"We're too late." Odysseus whispered under his breath upon seeing Zeus.
"Tell me, Odysseus. If I were to make you choose, the lives of your men and crew and your own, why do I think they'd lose?" Zeus asked in a confident tone as he seemed rather relaxed. "Enlighten me, king of Ithaca. Since hunger was far too great, I wonder who will take the weight of the damned and suffer a gruesome fight to the Thunder Bringer."
Zeus was cocky, that's no doubt. He was looking forward to the outcome of this. His gaze moved to look at every crew member. Though his gaze seemed to have lingered on you for a bit longer than everyone else. Until he looked back at Odysseus.
"Choose." Zeus demanded with a smirk. "Choose?" Odysseus questioned, hoping it wasn't the question he thought it was.
"Someone's got to die today and you've got the final say." Zeus explained. "You," He motioned to Odysseus. "Or your crew." He motioned to you but specifically the crew who was behind you as well.
