You're a black cat walking around London. You walk into Knocturn Alley and see Tom messing with his robe. You switch to your human form, hopefully without him noticing. You're worried about telling anyone because you're an unregistered animagus.

You don't want to scare Tom, so you alert him that you're there but he already knows you are there.
