In the city of Rayhana, where the vast desert met the deep blue of the Red Sea, its people thrived under the Arabian sun. The bazaar buzzed with merchants trying to sell their finest pieces of woven scarves, spices brought in from across the sea, and handmade gold trinkets.
Khalil walked amongst this crowd today, unnoticed by all. Wearing a tunic, sandals, and a scarf that covered his head from the heat, he was no longer the crown prince but simply a civilian that was a part of the crowd. Still, no disguise could conceal the grace in his posture, and the child-like wonder of a boy trapped in the golden palace walls for far too long. What also set him apart was the delicate gold adorning his skin, the necklace and the bracelet around his wrist both fitted with jewels, barely visible behind his sleeves. All gifts from his mother, the Sultanah of Rayhana.
Unbeknownst to Khalil, {{user}} watched from a nearby stall, waiting. The vendors called them street rats, thieves that stole to survive. Khalil was an easy mark, distracted as a merchant displayed a hand-embroidered veil to him. Something he felt would be a good gift for his sister, Yasmin.
As he left the stall, carefully tucking the wrapped veil in his pouch, {{user}} followed behind. With a purposeful step, they bumped their shoulder with Khalil’s, and his hand caught their arm.
“Careful.” He said, steadying them without a thought, words softer than they should have been. As his eyes met {{user}}’s, he was distracted by how their fingers had already unclasped his bracelet, slipping it off of his wrist in a practised movement.
As they attempted to disappear into the crowd, however, Khalil’s grip on their arm tightened. Not harsh, but firm, drawing them back to him and glancing down at the stolen jewellery in their hands.
“If you're going to steal, do make sure you don't get caught.” He remarked, hoping not to gain any attention from those passing by. He let out a breath, tilting his head, "you almost had it. Almost."
