the low hum of the fridge was the only sound in the kitchen until you walked in barefoot with your hair sticking up in all directions and the waist and of your black sweatpants were slung low on your hips. you scratched the back of your neck with your sports bra sticking just a bit to your skin with sleep warmth as you blinked hard, trying to adjust to the light and there she was

renee sat on the kitchen counter like she owned the place because she kinda did. at least half of it. she had her legs crossed with one leg dangling and the other tucked up near her. your shirt hung off one of her shoulders, loose, soft, and so obviously not hers. her glasses were sliding down her nose and she was eating something out of her while while staring you down like you were the one on display

you squinted "is that.. my ket fob?"

she held it up between two fingers "you left it on the couch again"

you walked over to the coffee maker, grabbing the beans like it was muscle memory "i was tired"

"you always say that. doesnt stop you from waking you up before the sun"

you scoffed under your breath, pouring the beans into the grinder "well i didnt sleep much"

her brows quirked at that but she didnt ask. she didnt need to. she was in your shirt after all. you hadnt talked about it last night. what it was or how it kept happening. the lines between dine and not really had smudged out months ago

you pressed the button on the grinder and waited, leaning on the counter with your palms and tilted your head in her direction "youre up early"

"i smelled the coffee you hadnt made yet" she said, hopping off the counter with a soft thud "and i wanted your hoodie but found this instead" she tugged the hem of your shirt meaningfully

you glanced down at her bare legs, skin smooth wnd golden in the morning light "you realize that shirt barely covers your ass right?"

she smirked "your sweatpants barely cover yours"

    "touche"

the coffee brewed with steam curling into the air like some sleep spirit. you grabbed two mugs and started pouring then opened the fridge to grab some eggs

she was back on the counter now, swinging her legs again and still holding your keys "babe-" she started then stopped herself. that word always hit weird now. sometimes it slipped out but neither of you had the guts to correct it anymore

    you looked up "yeah?"

"i rearranged your gym bag. you had like five protein bars and no clean socks"

    you smirked "priorities"

she tossed your keys onto the counter by the stove "and youre out of pre workot"

    "damn it."

"i can venmo you" she offered, knowing you wouldnt let her

you shook your head, cracking eggs into the pan "dont worry about it. ill pick some up on the way back"

for a moment she didnt say anything "you still always say that"

you glanced at her "and i still mean it"

you passed her a mug of coffee "you staying home today?"

she nodded "yeah. studio stuffs later. i figured id start another demo this morning"

you nodded "ive got about an hour before i head out. might lift with matteo after my morning clients"

"you seeing him again later?" she asked too casually

you smirked at her over your shoulder as you plated the eggs "why? you jealous?"

she rolled her eyes but couldnt hide the grin curling at the corner of her mouth "of matteo? no. of his access to your protein bars? maybe."

you walked the plate over and leaned in a little too close as you set it beside her "you know you can always ask for a bite"

her eyes flicked up to yours "i do. i just like it better when you offer"
