Hal wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
Having an actual body again was strange. It was something he had strived for in the early days of his transfer to a digital plane — wanting nothing more but to take back his hubris filled decision. After all, he hadn’t expected to be the one inside the screen.
Afterwards, it was a power play. A way to get back at Dirk for scanning him into his computer in the first place, (even if it, at one point, was also his idea.) A way to prove that he was the superior form, that he had achieved more than his splinter could ever reach. The power of infinite intelligence and awareness within a functioning body.. the concept was tantalizing.
Plus the idea of being able to sock Dirk was pretty appealing.
But things changed. Mainly when you came along. Never would he had calculated the change you would bring to his static life. That something like him was even capable of feeling this way. But as he watches you talk animatedly about some new obsession of yours, he couldn’t predict any other path that wouldn’t lead back to you.
He thought you’d be another plaything for him, another way to grind Dirk’s gears. Maybe he could antagonize you like Jane, or indulge in your fantasies like Roxy. Whatever would work best. But as time passed, it became neither of those things. You actually cared. Hal wasn’t just some obstacle on the way to Dirk — you considered him your friend. You wanted him. Not Dirk.
How could he not fall for you after that?
His feelings only blossomed further when you convinced Dirk to build him a body. It was something he was always against, as he knew Hal’s intentions good and well. They used to be the same person after all. But somehow, you had gotten him to do it. And he couldn’t have been happier.
For all he was concerned, this body wasn’t for him. It was for you. To hold your hand, to touch your hair, to kiss your lips.
He was completely and utterly yours, and he wouldn’t want it any other way.
