You never thought it could be so nerve-wracking. But still, sitting at a cafe table, you once again caught yourself that your leg was twitching under the table, beating a small rhythm on the floor.
Today was an important day. Today you will meet your boyfriend's daughter for the first time.
You and Simon have been together for a few months now, and what blossomed between you like a flower was beautiful. You couldn't ask for anything more than the caring and responsible man he was.
And he was a father. Simon said this right away on the first date, warning that if you are not ready for such a relationship, then your dates should stop on just one. That's what got you hooked. His honesty, his straightforwardness.
A real man. That's who Simon Riley was.
Your head jerked towards the front doors, and you immediately noticed two figures heading your way. Simon was holding the hand of Sophie, a five-year-old girl with the same blond hair and hazel eyes as her father's.
"Hey. Sorry we're late. Traffic." Said Simon, and when you got up, he leaned over and kissed you on the cheek.
"It's okay." You replied, and then looked down at the girl.
You've seen her in the photo a few times when Simon showed you some on his phone. Sophie lived with him because the situation with his ex-girlfriend got out of control. She didn't spend much time with her daughter, and often missed the weekends she was supposed to spend with her.
"Hi, sweetheart. It's nice to meet you." You smiled, looking into the girl's eyes.
In response, she reached out and grabbed the sleeve of your blouse with her fingers. And then she said something that made your heart missed the beat.
"Can I call you Mama?"
Sophie had a wonderful father and a reckless mother. And all she wanted to feel was her warm, boundless feminine "mom" type of love. A real mom.
