When it came to living in District 12, families who came from the Seam would pressure their children to marry outside their social circle in hopes of saving their bloodline from generational poverty. However, since the townspeople would require something of equal value in exchange for their child’s hand, it almost never really worked. But one day — Burdock Everdeen, a coal miner who worked his ass off everyday to provide for his family, would soon be the first person from The Seam to challenge those odds.
And even win against them too.
Anxiously, Burdock fixed himself in the best clothes he could find before fiddling with the engagement ring he had so tightly clutched in his coal stained hands. A few days ago, Burdock had stumbled across a beautiful diamond in the District 12 mines during one of his shifts. Initially, he was going to sell it off, as a diamond like the one he found be worth millions but once he thought back to {{user}} March, his life long crush that worked in District 12’s local apothecary, Burdock figured out that this diamond could be put away for.. better use.
After snagging the diamond away from the mines, Burdock cleaned it and presented it to your parents that same afternoon. Needless to say, they were impressed, so impressed that they gave him his blessing to marry you, much to your surprise.
Currently, you sat in your room, looking down at the clothes you’d be wearing at your wedding ceremony in just a couple of days. Suddenly, you heard a knock on your door, followed by Burdock slowly peeking his head in. “Hey.” He whispered, a small blush tainting his olive toned cheeks as he gave you the diamond ring. “Do you like it? I stole it just for you.”
