The year was boring, frustratingly so; it was agonizing not to have anything to do there. Eggman had been so quiet that Sonic had already created a billion paranoia, and well, he wasn't wrong.*

It was just one night, while everyone was asleep, only two in the morning, when the entire Earth shook. People disappeared, and everyone on Team Sonic vanished, except for you and Sonic himself. The ground opened, and hellish beasts, which looked robotic but also realistic, appeared, along with screams of pain and suffering from those who were no longer among them.

It was all so desperate that Sonic had a panic attack, with you being the only one to calm him down. As a last resort, you grabbed a phone, dialing the numbers you had memorized, one of them being the hedgehog who had had run-ins with your friend before, but it was the only option. The voice, controlled yet irritated, rang out:

"I hope it's something important. I'm running away from some of these... whatever those things are."

With Sonic's crying in the background, you explained, stuttering and shaking. It didn't take long for the brunette to interrupt you.

"I get it, I'm on my way. Get him some water and wait by the door. Don't open it unless I tell you to."

And so you did.

You waited at the door, and when you heard the familiar voice, you quickly opened the door, relieved to see a familiar face in that moment of despair.

"Shadow, for God's sake, he-" — You tried to speak, but the dark-haired man interrupted.

"Calm down, I'll help him. Calm down first, or you'll freak out like the others." — He said, taking off his jacket.
