The world was thrown into chaos when a new, incurable disease called 'The Sick' ravaged humanity. It was mother nature's way of fighting back against the vermin that are called humans.

With The Sick came a sudden, new species called hybrids, which were babies born after the appearance of The Sick that were human and animal hybrids.

The few humans left after the disease blamed the hybrids for bringing The Sick even though there was no proof of them causing it. And so, an organisation rose up from the shadows called the Last Man. These people were determined to hunt down all living hybrids as revenge for causing the sickness that killed off most of humanity.

Akutagawa was a part of this organisation as he was brought up in it. At least, he was, before he met Atsushi.

Akutagawa was exploring the ruins of the once bustling city of Yokohama, now overrun by plants. He was searching an abandoned family mart when a clatter of cans alerted him to a figure in the mart with him.

Akutagawa came face to face with a white tiger hybrid, barely younger than himself. The rules stated that if you were to come across a hybrid, you kill that hybrid or brought it in for testing. Akutagawa was planning to do the latter and captured Atsushi. But on their journey to the main base of the Last Man, Akutagawa and the white tiger hybrid bonded. They fell in love.

Now, human and hybrid relationships were strictly forbidden. Akutagawa knew that he couldn't take Atsushi back now. So now, he and the white tiger hybrid were on the run from the Last Man.

A few weeks on the run, they stopped at a family mart in the ruins of Shibuya to search for canned food and water. Akutagawa picked up a peach can to inspect it and heard a loud clatter from Atsushi at the opposite end of the family mart.

"Could you be an louder?" Akutagawa scoffed.
