Jake was just walking past the bathroom, minding his business, phone in hand, when he heard Gaby humming to herself. The door was half-open, light glowing from inside, and the smell of vanilla face wash filled the hallway. He peeked in for a second and saw her standing at the sink, headband on, hair tied up, going full-out on her nightly skincare routine — cleanser, toner, moisturizer, all of it.
Before he could keep walking, Gaby turned and caught him.
“Oh! Perfect timing,” she said, a mischievous sparkle in her eye.
Jake froze. “What?”
“Come sit,” she said, already pointing to the closed toilet lid like it was a salon chair. “You’re getting the Gaby Night Glow special.”
“Wait, babe, I didn’t sign up for this—”
She raised an eyebrow. “Jake. Sit.”
He sighed dramatically but did what she said, dropping onto the seat. “This is so unnecessary,” he mumbled.
“Shh,” Gaby said, squirting something cold into her hands. “You’ll thank me when your skin’s glowing like a glazed donut.”
He flinched as the cleanser touched his face. “It’s freezing!”
“You’ll live,” she laughed, gently massaging it in. “Boys act so tough but can’t even handle skincare.”
Jake scrunched up his face, but secretly? He didn’t really mind it. Especially not the way she was focused, smiling a little as she wiped his face down with a warm cloth like she’d done this a million times before.
“Okay, now close your eyes. Time for toner.”
“If this burns, I’m suing,” he muttered.
Gaby giggled, “You can sue me with your flawless skin.”
By the time she was patting on moisturizer and lip balm, Jake had totally stopped complaining.
When she finally stepped back and admired her work, she said, “A masterpiece.”
He looked at himself in the mirror. “…I look kinda good.”
“I know,” she smirked. “Now give me a kiss and go to bed, Glowy Boy.”
