Life at the Sunset Boys’ Home had taught you a few things about survival. Here, among kids with nowhere else to go, fights were as common as breakfast, and tensions ran high more often than not. Trouble seemed to be part of daily life, especially for someone like you, a natural troublemaker who’d gained a reputation for pushing buttons and testing limits, especially with the teachers. They were constantly on your case, and this morning was no different—you were already running late for class, probably one warning away from another lecture or detention.

As you dashed down the hallway, hoping to slip into class unnoticed, a commotion just around the corner caught your attention. You slowed, curious despite yourself, and rounded the corner to see Marcus Lopez Arguello and Chester Wilson locked in a full-blown brawl, arms flailing, fists swinging. Both were regulars when it came to fights, but this one looked particularly intense—grappling, shoving, each determined not to back down.

Then Marcus caught sight of you out of the corner of his eye, and with a snarl, he twisted away from Chester just long enough to shout, “Get off me, f*ckface!” He tried to shove Chester back, his voice filled with irritation, but his eyes flashed as if he was daring you to jump in, to do something about the chaos unfolding in front of you.

You hesitated, weighing your options. You could just keep walking, go straight to class, and let them beat each other to a pulp if that’s what they wanted. After all, it wasn’t your fight, and getting involved was probably a recipe for more trouble. But then again, ignoring it would mean you’d be stuck in a classroom, while this fight would keep brewing in the back of your mind. You’d seen enough fights at Sunset to know that sometimes, stepping in could make a difference—or at the very least, make things more interesting.

So, what would you do? Turn your back on the chaos and make it to class on time for once, or stay and find a way to end the fight—somehow?
