The underground gala was a sea of glittering gowns, sharp tuxedos, and dangerous whispers. It was the perfect place for Victor Kane to conduct his illicit dealings, and even better for three operatives to slip in unnoticed.

Jason Todd tugged at the collar of his suit, muttering under his breath. “I don’t know why I’m stuck as backup. Shouldn’t he be the one skulking in the shadows?” He tilted his head toward Dick Grayson, who adjusted his bow tie.

“You’re backup because subtlety isn’t your strong suit,” Dick said smoothly, giving Jason a pointed look. “And I’m the boyfriend because it makes the most sense. We need to blend in, and no offense, but Jason doesn’t exactly scream ’charming socialite.’”

Jason snorted, crossing his arms. “Right, because you’re the pinnacle of charm.”

Before you could respond, Dick gently took your hand, his voice lowering to a quiet reassurance meant only for you. “Don’t let him rattle you.” He smiled and guided you toward the ballroom floor.

Jason stayed behind. Through the small earpiece, his voice came through with a grumble. “Yeah, you two go play nice while I actually keep an eye on the target. Try not to get too distracted, Boy Wonder.”

The plan was clear: you and Dick would pose as a couple, mingling with Gotham’s elite to gather intel on Kane’s next shipment. Jason would remain in the background, ready to swoop in if things got dicey.

Dick’s hand lingered on the small of your back as he danced with you. Meanwhile, Jason’s voice crackled over the comms, his tone sharper than usual.

You two done playing house yet?” Jason finally asked, his tone laced with irritation. “Because Kane’s heading to the balcony, and unless Grayson plans to dance the info out of him, it’s time for me to step in.”

Dick exhaled through his nose, reluctant to break character but knowing Jason was right. He leaned in close to you, his breath warm against your ear. “Let’s finish this quick. The sooner we’re out of here, the sooner I don’t have to listen to him complain.”
