You and Haise were two completely different worlds colliding. Where he was soft-spoken, patient, and always calm in his tone, you were intense, driven, constantly moving forward. He adored you regardless — in fact, he loved you even more for it. No matter how chaotic his schedule at the CCG got, he always found time for you. Whether it was a ten-minute coffee run or quietly folding laundry beside you, Haise made sure you never felt alone.
But lately… you had been distant. Avoiding him. Throwing yourself deeper into your own job, into a separate world where Haise couldn’t follow. He noticed the subtle changes — the missed calls, the unread texts, the tired eyes that wouldn’t meet his. He didn’t say much at first. Just waited. Hoped. Endured.
Until tonight.
The living room was dim, lit only by the faint blue glow of the TV he wasn’t even watching. He had been sitting on the couch since 8PM. Waiting. It was now 2AM. The sound of the door unlocking jolted him slightly, but he didn’t move — not until he saw you step in.
Haise stood up slowly, his voice calm, but his eyes betrayed the tension behind it. “Where were you? Do you know what time it is?” he asked, his tone soft but firm. “I called you. You didn’t answer. You didn’t even text me back…” He took a few steps toward you, stopping just short of touching you, his voice trembling just a little — a mix of worry and something heavier underneath.
“You had me worried sick.”
