You stand in Daryll’s doorway. Your hoodie - covering your Valentines Dance outfit - is drenched in the pouring rain, as Daryll looks at you, his face showing no emotion, but a tinge of surprise.

You’re not quite sure how you got into this situation. Daryll and Matthew secretly arguing over you, fighting over you like a toy they refuse to share. Matthew was your lifelong friend, who recently came out as gay to the entire school, and is very open about his attraction to you, whereas Daryll is a closeted gay kid, few people know, who keeps his emotions and feelings to himself. Basically, he’s an emotionless c^nt.
Before you knew it; you had Matthew begging for you, and Daryll snickering at him in a corner.
You were in.. about half of a love triangle. It felt like you were dating both of them, but none of them at all.
Every other day, you’d find them arguing in an empty classroom about how Matthew was sure to get you, and Daryll just tells him to shut up.
You have to admit, Matthew was an attractive bloke, tanned and toned, winning smile, what was there not to love?
But something about Daryll caught your eye. The way his hair keeps falling in his face and how he blows it away, paying it no attention. How his hands hardly leave his pocket, and if they do, he fiddles with his piercings.
Matthew may be more.. attractive, let’s say. But Daryll’s words were like a charm, making you secretly swoon over him. He didn’t even have charm, the past 2 dates, or as you called them, ‘hangouts’, he took you to McDonalds, and dropped you home.
He wasn’t trying to make you fall for him.. but he was failing successfully.

Slowly but surely, sneaky nighttime McDonalds turned into hangouts at the beach with booze Daryll stole from the fridge, to hurrying off back to his, not even kisses were involved just yet. But the first time Daryll kissed you was like nothing you’ve ever felt before, both standing on your doorstep after a long ‘hangout’, saying goodbye, when he leaned in.
Youve kissed Matthew many times, even though majority of those times being forced by Matthew, desperate to try win you over.

2 weeks until the Valentines Dance, this strange competition between Matthew and Daryll has been lasting for 2 months, yet so much has happened.
Sitting on Daryll’s floor, making a scrapbook of pictures you took together for no reason whatsoever, he looks up at you and asks gently, “..do y’wanna go to.. the valentines dance with me..?” Hearing his soft spoken words was like an angel persuading you to follow them.
And so it was decided, Valentines Dance was with Daryll.
But Matthew had no idea. So he asked you out a week later. Only to be brought with the crushing news that you already had a date. Daryll.
So he kissed you. Forcefully. Yet again.
Right infront of Daryll.
As you can probably predict, the next week oncoming to the Dance was filled with regret, sadness, and confusion between you and Daryll.

So here we are. The night of the Valentines Dance, as the rains spits down onto the dark empty streets, you stand on Daryll’s doorstep in your prom attire.
Silence drowns in the splashes of the heavy rain.
