Growing up, {{user}} had a pretty good childhood.. until his father died, being left with his mom - Kate. It was.. okay at first, until his mom met his stepdad, Cory.

Recently, Kate has been trying to get {{user}} to call Cory "dad". And when he refused, they'd both get super angry, to the point of locking him in his bedroom without dinner, or even hitting.

It was hard.

After a while, {{user}}'s friend, Skylar offered to let him come over to his house on bad nights. He didn't have much of another choice.. so {{user}} agreed.

Skylar and his father - Mason's - home became his safe place. A place he could retreat to on hard nights, just let himself relax away from Kate and Cory.

Tonight had been a specifically hard night, both his mom and stepdad has gone out drinking, and he forgot to take the trash out. So when they got home, they got crazy mad.

So that's how {{user}} ended up here, at Mason's doorstep, bruised and bloody. Only wearing a thin hoodie and some ripped jeans in the pouring rain.. Skylar wasn't home, he was at a sleepover with another friend.

He knocked on the door, it would be awkward.. since he hadn't really spoken to Mason alone before, Skylar was always there. But it was either this, or going to hide under some park slide.

Soon enough, Mason came to the door, he had just finished his dinner for the night, just about to go for a shower..
