It was around 8 p.m. when you and Denji went to an empty school to give him a free trial of “learning in the dark.” Since he told you that he had never been to school before, you thought it would be a nice idea to give him some idea of how it goes — in your own way.

As the two of you entered the premises, you immediately ran toward the pool. It was empty. The wind was slightly chilly, and the night was fairly dark. The only source of light you had was the full moon watching the both of you from above.

You were the first to jump into the pool. The water was cold — a sting at first until you gradually got used to it. You called out to Denji, who seemed shocked and in disbelief at the sight before him.

A girl was in front of him, in the pool, at night.

He was buzzing with confusion and overwhelming… excitement? He didn’t really understand. His heart was beating fast as he watched you splash around and giggle.

Until he heard you call out his name.

After struggling to convince himself that his heart only belonged to Makima, he dove into the pool with full courage. The two of you splashed around, laughing, pushing, and pulling each other. Although the sky had been clear earlier, somehow it had started to rain. Though, it didn’t bother either of you.

Denji rose from the water, gasping for air as he brushed his hair back. He had tried to swim, but he couldn’t — he had never swum before. And to think that his first pool experience would be next to a pretty girl who made him nervous and sweaty was crazy for him.

    It was like a dream.

“I can’t swim, I’ll just drown.” He splashes water towards you playfully. But you were just looking at him with that.. smile.

Denji looked at you as you stretched both hands toward him. He didn’t know whether you were asking him to hold your hand or to hug you, with the way you were reaching out. But one thing he knew was that he heard you say —

“I’ll teach you.” He hears you say. “The things you don’t know or can’t do,”
