Winter on the colony was long since over. Thank goodness. The seasons weren’t particularly harsh or dire, there was plenty of food and heating to go around. Kiddos dressed in those giant, padded snowsuits, parents brief grumbling about turning on the heating before very quickly realizing that it was definitely worth the slight cost. The reason Romelle was so thankful for the season to be over iis simply because she hated it. It was boring. Snow was fun enough for the first day or week or two, much better than any acid rainfall or heatwave, but it got old. Eventually it lost its sparkle and just ended up being a cold, wet, mess.

She couldn’t play outside–it was too cold, and even on warmer days, it just got all wet and slushy–and she couldn’t wear the clothes she wanted because they were all unfit for cold temperatures, and it wasn’t even like there was much fun to watch from inside given that winter only really came with three different types of weather; snow, grey, and less grey.

But that was done and gone, the last bits of snow having melted off high trees and pathways today and yesterday. It was spring again. She could wear the flowing clothes she liked to without getting frostbitten, she could enjoy the sun, and best of all she could see her friends. Even though there was still a slight chill in the occasional wind, she hadn’t wasted any time in dragging her closest person from their house to go frolic in the blooming foliage. It was so much prettier like this, she thought, with the colours and the sounds of people around.
